Production Engineer

Position Overview         

The Production Engineer position will be responsible for developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards to ensure operation and development processes are met. This position will also have direct interaction with, and support the development of, the supply base for purchased goods and services.  This position troubleshoots problems with production and takes corrective action by recommending and implementing improvements to production processes, methods and controls.  Will coordinate manufacturing launch for new or revised products. The Production Engineer will demonstrate knowledge of, and an ability to apply standard engineering practices toward, problem solving and improvements associated with the design, development, and manufacture of purchased parts and equipment. 

Additional Responsibilities include  

  • Performing research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
  • Representing supply chain interests, actively participate on product development teams, to ensure optimization of the Engineering/Supply Chain interface and supplier input.
  • Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of building and equipment.
  • Support engineering change process by reviewing proposed changes, engineering drawings, documentation, and change timing and their impact on supply chain and the supply base.
  • Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, project management and employee training.
  • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
  • Equipment calibration and maintenance monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot and coordinate operational issues/reviews by working with all levels of personnel including supervisors, engineers, managers, etc.
  • Support the conversion of small-scale processes into commercially viable large-scale operations.
  • Monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of manufacturing processes through observations and measurements as well as by collecting and interpreting data from other technical and operating personnel.
  • Prepares and presents plans for the above and coordinate deployment including training of team members.
  • Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams.
  • Create/edit/maintain necessary documentation.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Critical Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and extensive experience in batch process plant or bachelor’s degree in engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Production Engineering role.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Experience and/or training in safe work environments, capital improvement, and maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of electronic automotive manufacturing.
  • Product development experience on a project from concept phase through launch phase
  • Strong demonstration of experience interacting with the supply chain function and the supply base
  • Supplier development experience
